Why are there ridges on the F and J keys on the keyboard?

Look at the 'F' and 'J' keys on your keyboard. Ever wondered why they have ridges?
Here's a little trivia: The ridges on the F and J keys are there to determine the position of the fingers on the keyboard. This is usually used by "touch typists" or people who type without looking at the keyboard. Touch typists put their index fingers on the F (left) and J (right) keys before they type so they know where their fingers are at. If your keyboard has a NumPad or numeric pad, you'll notice that the 5 key also has this ridge.
